Tech Fair attracts firms, job seekers
DETROIT -- A technology career fair in Detroit's TechTown district on Wednesday is expected to draw thousands of college graduates and displaced auto workers hoping to land a high-tech job in Michigan.
Companies such as Compuware, AAA Michigan, the Army National Guard and Xoran Technologies Inc. will be at the Technology and Emerging Sectors Career Fair to recruit workers for jobs in alternative energy, advanced manufacturing, homeland security and life sciences, among others.
Also at the fair will be companies from sectors that support these industries such as retail, insurance, transportation, sales, services, administrative and hospitality.
"Today Michigan is working hard to attract new industries to the state in order to reduce our dependence on the automotive industry," Rick Weaver, chief operating officer of the Multicultural Business Council, said in a written statement.
